The Horn Grip

While the shop was in its infancy, Chris & UD classmate John Wheeler developed a device to aid players in keeping their palm from resting on the leadpipe & to promote proper hand posture as well as finger dexterity.  After making some initial prototypes & trying out its effectiveness they realized they didn't have the resources & equipment to manufacture this on even a basic level so the idea sat in a box for the better part of a decade until Chris partnered with long-time friend & machinist Mike Moore to revitalize it.  After extensive R&D  it was refined enough to start manufacturing & selling them.  It was an instant success garnering the accolades of such top players as Wayne Bergeron & John Hagstrom.  Mike was instrumental in getting the Horn Grip to the level of aesthetics & functionality necessary to market it.  He developed special tools & fixtures to streamline the manufacturing process.  About 50 were initially produced in Mike's small shop until it was obvious operations needed to be scaled up to reach a larger audience & keep up with demand.  The product was shopped around to various injection molding & plastics manufacturers until Chris decided to talk to Terry Warburton about it.  Considering that Warburton at the time was getting more heavily involved in the practice aid accessories market, it seemed like the perfect fit.  The two soon penned an agreement for Warburton Music Products to be the exclusive manufacturer & worldwide distributor.
